Who runs ExplainSTEM?
Alex runs ExplainSTEM and is responsible for the information collected through this demo. Contact hello@explainstem.com with privacy questions or requests.
Watching lessons and answering questions
You can watch the lessons and try the practice questions without an account. Practice answers stay in the current page and are not submitted to us. Your light or dark theme preference is saved in your browser’s local storage. We do not use advertising trackers, audience analytics or marketing sign-ups.
Feedback you choose to send
The form asks for your role, what worked well, what should change, what would make the service worth paying for and whether you might use it alongside tutoring. It does not ask for your name, school or email address. Your answers and the time of submission are saved in a private Google Sheet accessible to Alex. They are used to review lessons and decide what to develop. They are not displayed publicly, sold or used for marketing.
Please do not include children’s names, schools, contact details, health information or other sensitive personal information. Younger students can ask a parent or carer to send feedback for them.
Keeping the form safe
Cloudflare hosts this website and checks feedback submissions using Turnstile. These services process technical information such as your connection address, browser information and security signals to deliver the site and prevent abuse. Turnstile loads when you interact with the feedback form. You can watch the videos and use the practice questions without submitting feedback.
Our feedback service converts the connection address into a keyed fingerprint before sending it to the Google receiver. A private security tab stores that fingerprint, a fingerprint of the feedback, a response identifier and a submission time to limit spam and duplicates. The Google receiver does not receive the original connection address from our code. Fingerprinting does not make information anonymous.
Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Turnstile privacy information describe its handling of technical data. We do not enable Turnstile pre-clearance cookies. There is no advertising or optional analytics cookie on this demo.
Why we use this information
We rely on legitimate interests to run a secure educational demo, prevent spam and understand voluntary feedback so we can improve ExplainSTEM. We keep the form optional, avoid requesting identifying details and do not use feedback to profile students or make automated decisions about them. You can object to this use by contacting Alex.
How long information is kept
Alex will review and delete identifiable feedback from the active response sheet within 90 days. General ideas may be kept without identifying details. Security fingerprints older than 24 hours are removed when the next valid signed submission reaches the receiver. If submissions stop, these records remain until Alex clears them. The local development copy has a separate test database and never sends its test responses to Google.
Cloudflare and Google also process operational information and may keep logs or backups under their own policies. We do not deliberately log feedback answers, verification tokens or private credentials in our application logs.
Providers and international processing
The demo uses Cloudflare for hosting and bot protection, and Google Sheets and Apps Script for private feedback storage and delivery. These providers may process information outside the UK. Their privacy information describes the locations and transfer safeguards they use. See Google’s privacy policy and the Cloudflare policies above. If you email ExplainSTEM, your email provider and the service that receives our email also handle that correspondence.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal information you have provided, object to its use or request restricted processing where applicable. Contact Alex with enough detail to locate the response, such as its approximate date and wording. Do not send unnecessary identification. You can remove the saved theme preference through your browser’s site-data settings.
You can raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office. This notice will be updated if the service or its use of information changes.
